About:

The Colonial Experience school incursion is a complete interactive show that allows children to experience what life was like back in the Colonial Times, during the British Colonisation of Australia. With authentic equipment, real-life anecdotes, songs and events from the past, the Colonial Experience is not only a must for all students learning about Australia History. It is a must - see show based on the audience interactive entertainment component that just completes the learning outcomes of this unit for teachers.

THE COLONIAL EXPERIENCE school incursion is a great alternative to the whole day experience and offers a more affordable cost at nearly half the price of the whole day show.

The Colonial Experience school incursion show is an educational resource which gives students an opportunity to interact with characters and experience life in Sydney Town in the early Colony of New South Wales 1788 - 1809 whichi is no longer accessible.

Schools, children, students and teacher will have exclusive, almost never before seen access to the nation‘s fledgling beginnings as a penal colony. The show is based on the Learning Outcomes of the Unit – “British Colonisation in Australia”, Stage 2 in the Human Society and Its Environment (HSIE) Syllabus. This performance can ALSO be incorporated in the (COGS.) Connected Outcomes Group Support Curriculum, including the National Curriculum for Australian History. While the show is aimed at Years 3 and 4 it is suitable for the entire primary school. The show allows students to participate as the colonial time span comes alive with authentic props and professional actors. The Colonial Show brings to life with utter realism the story of Australia's colonisation.

The Colonial Experience school incursion begins with the students being introduced to the larrikin Irish convict James Murphy or the female convict Ann Fowles and experienced the hardships of the day and the oppression and tyranny they faced at the hands of the soldiers (Redcoats), and Sergeant Kennedy engages the students in the story of the Military.

The students relive the Voyage of the First Fleet, under the command of Captain Arthur Phillip, raising of the King’s Colours and participate in a recruitment of soldiers into the New South Wales Corp nicknamed the Rum Corps.

This is where the fun begins as your students and school experience the repercussions of the theft of damper and the arrest of the convict right in front of their eyes. The question is...

Can your students accurately become the magistrate for the trial of James Murphy and sentence him to a flogging?

Can they hold their wits and tell the story of the Black Velvet Band and how the British Government introduced the practise of Cribbing which framed tradesmen for the crime of theft?

Can they bear to hear the serious, yet funny stories of the characters and the reason they were sent to the Colony of NSW?

There is only one way to find out ... Book your ticket to the most exciting Australian Historical Renactment ever seen.

The Colonial Experience school incursion is a shorter version of The Colonial Show and runs for approximately 2 hours right in the safety of your school grounds. It is a perfect event to have at your school to encourage, stimulate or enhance what the students are learning.

The Colonial Experience school incursion was written by qualified and experienced school teachers and is well scripted to enhance the learning outcomes taught in the school classroom.
