Commemorate the Bicentenary of crossing the Blue Mountains.
Inspire your students as they join: the Aboriginal people, explorers Blaxland, Wentworth and Lawson, surveyor Evans, road-builder Cox and pioneer settlers.

CROSSING has a lively, fast-paced and humorous script and is based on extensive historical research. The play inspires inquiry and passion for history at a primary school level and is devised by Gregory Blaxland’s descendants Wendy Blaxland and her daughter Jessica Blaxland Ashby.

After sell out seasons in 2013 and 2014, 2015  will be the final year this extraordinary play will come in to schools.

CROSSING teaches the new history syllabus in an integrated way as it comes alive in a fast-paced, humorous script and inspires the creative arts including drama, music and dance.

It is linked to the curriculum for K – 6, has an easy-to-use teacher pack includes traditional and original songs, including the Aboriginal song 'Thousands of Years', has clothing, inventions and artefacts from a different era and uses historical vocabulary.

The following topics come directly from the new Australian history curriculum: www.australiancurriculum.edu.au. CROSSING:

•      identifies and explores different points of view both in the past and present, including the Aboriginal
•      uses a range of communication forms (spoken, role play, written)
•      uses historical terms
•      shows the history of significant people and the natural environment in the local community
•      shows the journey of explorers, including their contact with other societies and its impact
•      shows stories of the First Fleet, including reasons for the journey, who travelled to Australia, and their experiences following arrival.

‘What a brilliant show! The performance was spot on – a mix of history, comedy and music – and kept the students engaged from start to finish. The script was historically correct yet simple enough for a young audience. The performers were enthusiastic and kept the show moving.’ - Hazelbrook Public School

‘The children have learnt so much from your presentation. The play had humour as well as knowledge for them to go away with. We were delighted they all were so engaged.’ - Our Lady of the Nativity School

‘An excellent performance of CROSSING!! Our boys thoroughly enjoyed it and learned so much history about the crossing of the Blue Mountains. It’s so lovely when history can come to life on the stage.’ - Sydney Grammar School – St Ives Prep School

We look forward to bringing history to life at your school.
